Coffee morning in Douglas in aid of Down Syndrome Centre 

The Down Syndrome Centre Cork have launched their annual coffee morning fundraiser, which takes place on Wednesday, October 7, at The Village Bar and Restaurant in Douglas Village.

The event will kick off from 09.30am. Entry is €5 and you are guaranteed a coffee/tea together with tasty treats, donated by local businesses across Cork.

There will be a raffle on the day, with some of the wonderful prizes up for grabs. Tickets will be available at the Village on the day.

The event has been organised by locals and friends of Down Syndrome Centre, Aidan and Diane Dalton, who have done a tremendous amount of selfless fundraising for charities across Cork.

The Down Syndrome Centre Cork is extremely grateful to have their support and partnership. The centre is located on Forge Hill and was created by local parents who wanted their children with Down syndrome to have early therapies, guidance, and friendships in one welcoming place.

Since opening in 2017, more than 200 children have taken their first steps here, physically and socially through physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, play therapy, cranial support, psychology and family networks.

These therapies build mobility, communication and independence — skills that make a lifelong difference for children.

Ambassador and Ireland and Swansea soccer star, Adam Idah, from Douglas, is a focal ambassador for Down Syndrome Centre Cork, and has completed tremendous work, advocating for the centre and early intervention therapies.

Adam’s cousin attends the centre and also receives vital early intervention support.

All funds raised will be directly to Down Syndrome Centre Cork, supporting their services to children and families with Down Syndrome.

In parallel to the multidisciplinary therapies that the team provides, they also provide family respite over school holidays in the format of camps that include yoga, cookery, art, climbing etc.
