Cork Simon to hold sleep-out at Elizabeth Fort to raise funds for homeless services

The Cork Simon Community will host its second annual sleep-out in Elizabeth Fort next month in response to homelessness figures.

Since April, more than 800 people per month have availed of emergency accommodation in Cork, with numbers consistently increasing across the country every year.

Cork Simon CEO Dermot Kavanagh said no one should have to face homelessness.

“Every day we meet men and women who are struggling to find a safe place to sleep, a secure home, or the support they need to rebuild their lives,” said Mr Kavanagh. “The sleep-out is a powerful reminder that homelessness hits people across our community every single day.

“Every euro raised will help Cork Simon provide housing, support, and hope to those experiencing homelessness this winter.”

Cork Simon are asking members of the public to help raise money for Cork Simon’s emergency services by sleeping out in Elizabeth Fort on October 2, or by hosting their own sleep-out in their community, school or workplace.
