The Irish Heart Foundation recently visited NICHE Health Project in Knocknaheeny to provide a community workshop focused on heart health awareness, preventative lifestyle changes, and cardiovascular well-being.

Led by Sharon Butler, an Irish Heart Foundation Patient Champion and heart attack survivor, the workshop shared powerful personal insights alongside critical educational resources.

This included understanding risk factors, with guidance provided on managing key indicators such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels to lower the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Ms Butler highlighted how heart attack symptoms can differ in women, such as chest pressure, back or neck pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue, and the importance of seeking early medical attention.

She also suggested how practical life changes – simple daily habits for heart health including stress management, moderate exercise, and balanced nutrition – can make a big difference.

Attendees were provided official Irish Heart Foundation resources, including guides like My Heart Health, Manage Your Blood Pressure, and Reboot Your Life.

Two subsidised health services are set to begin shortly at the centre also – acupuncture and massage.

NICHE works in partnership with community members, and is core funded by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Acupuncture will run Tuesdays from 1pm to 4pm starting on September 15 next week at the NICHE health project facility, located beside the Credit Union in Knocknaheeny at T3XY16.

You can book a session with Paula at 0860762452 for €7.

There will also be massage sessions available for €10 each from 10am to 1pm on Tuesdays starting on September 16.

A spokesperson for NICHE said: “With countless benefits, from mental health to physical health, everyone can see the positive effects of a relaxing massage! Contact Paula to book your spot.”
