Cork man jailed after pleading guilty to variety of charges following Christmas Day arrest

The Christmas Day arrest of a 40-year-old man for being drunk and in possession of a stolen watch at Lee Rd in Cork has led to him being jailed for that and a litany of other offences.

Judge David Waters imposed a number of concurrent sentences, totalling seven months, on Stephen Keenan, of 22 St John’s Square, Cork.

He pleaded guilty to a variety of charges at Cork District Court.

On January 11, 2025, he entered the staff area of Starbucks in Blackpool Retail Park and stole a bank card and a small amount of cash belonging to a member of staff.

On May 2, 2025, he stole a bank card from a delivery truck parked outside an Aldi in Blackpool and then used it to make purchases at O’Reilly’s garage on Watercourse Rd.

Keenan admitted using a stolen bank card to make a number of purchases on November 5, 2025. On December 3, 2025, he damaged the window frame of a neighbour’s house while living at Brookvale, Ballyvolane, by throwing a beer can at it.

He was found to be drunk and a danger on Christmas Day at Lee Rd, Cork, and had a stolen watch in his possession.

Most recently, on June 16, 2026, he broke into a car at Virgin Media Park at Ballyphehane.

Judge Waters was told that the accused had difficulties with drugs and alcohol, but was engaging well with rehabilitation services in prison, including a methadone treatment programme.
