Mayfield set to host family celebration on Culture Night

Culture Night takes place on Friday, September 18, and there are lots of exciting events across the community.

The green at Corrib Lawn, Mayfield, will host a relaxed, family-friendly celebration of the many cultures, stories and traditions that enrich the local community, beginning at 5.30pm.

Attendees can enjoy cultural food, live music, conversation and children’s face painting as well as a local band at the event which everyone is welcome at.

Mayfield Library will, at 7pm, host a 45-minute event with a mix of drama, poetry, reading, and song.

The performance, “When Two Worlds Collide”, invites the audience to reflect on their own encounters – with others, with change, and with themselves.

It is brought to the library by ‘SunMakers’, a group of emerging writers.

Mercier Press bookshop in St Luke’s will host a revisit of Mercier Press’s ‘The Irish Bedside Book’ (celebrating its 35th anniversary this year) from 6.45pm.

The anthology was edited by John M Feehan, with extracts from writers such as John B Keane, Daniel Corkery and Eamon Kelly.

The evening will start with a brief history and context of the book itself, then readings from it and then a conversation about what could be added to it from over the last 35 years.

From 8.30pm to 11pm, the Cork Accordion Club will be having an event at Sarsfields Hurling Club, where local musicians can meet and share tunes.

The 2FM Rising X Culture Night event will also be broadcast live From St Luke’s Cork and will feature performances from 2FM Rising artists MOIO, Mischa and the Bear, Run The Red, Chubby Cat and a live DJ set from 2FM DJ Graham Smyth. Booking is required.
