Charges brought relating to alleged stashes of cannabis and ecstasy in Fountainstown

New drugs charges, including a count related to an alleged stash of over €16,000 worth of cannabis and ecstasy in Fountainstown, have been brought against a 21-year-old man.
Detective Garda Eoin O’Toole testified at Cork District Court that he brought the charges against Zack Ward of Cork Simon Community, and that the accused made no reply when charged.
Sergeant Gearóid Davis told Judge David Waters that the Director of Public Prosecutions directed trial by indictment in the case where it is alleged that the cannabis had a street value in excess of €14,000 and the MDMA (ecstasy) had a value of over €2,000.
Because of the combined value of the drugs, he is charged with one count referring to a total amount in excess of €13,000, the threshold figure that allows for a ten-year minimum sentence unless the judge finds there are exceptional circumstances.
All charges faced by Zach Ward in this case relate to Sand Road in Fountainstown on April 21.
On the application of Sgt Davis, Judge David Waters adjourned the case until September 9 for the accused to consider whether he would be entering a signed plea of guilty or if a book of evidence would be required.
Detective Garda Eoin O’Toole originally charged Zach Ward previously with possession of cannabis and having the drug for the purpose of sale or supply to others at Sand Road, Fountainstown, County Cork, on April 21.
