Lions Club joins tributes as broadcaster Elmarie Mawe laid to rest

The Carrigaline & District Lions Club has paid tributes to broadcaster, actor, and teacher Elmarie Mawe, whose funeral took place on Thursday.

For over a quarter of a century, Ms Mawe was host of The Arts House on 96FM and C103, where she earned a reputation as the voice of the arts in Cork and hosted several major civic and cultural events and concerts.

In a social media post, the Lions Club described Ms Mawe as a “dear friend” and a “wonderful supporter of all that we do”. It added: “For those who have attended our concerts over the years, you will undoubtedly remember Elmarie as our ever-so professional, charismatic, and engaging MC. 

"She had a wonderful ability to connect with an audience, bringing warmth, personality, and a touch of magic.

“Elmarie was much more than our MC, she was a true friend of the club, and her kindness, generosity, and support over the years will always be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Conor and her wider family and many friends.”
