Marymount and nature reserve to benefit from sunflower day fundraiser

The upcoming Sunflower Day on Sunday August 23 takes place at Corrin Nature Reserve.

The annual Sunflower Day fundraiser at Corrin Nature Reserve takes place next Sunday.

All funds raised from the 2026 Sunflower day will be divided 50-50 between Marymount Hospice and the Corrin Nature Reserve, which is situated between Rathcormac and Fermoy.

Last year over €2,300 was donated to Marymount Hospice. This is also the main fundraiser for the maintenance of the nature reserve so please come along and support generously, an event spokesperson said.

“This year is the reserve’s fifth annual Sunflower Day, which will be bigger and better than before. In recent years, thousands of sunflower plants have been grown.

"These beautiful flowers are brilliant for the promotion of biodiversity and are immensely popular with young and old.”

The event on the way will commence at 10am and continue all day up until 4pm.

There is a line-up of local musicians and bands on the schedule who will provide music all day long. This includes the music in the morning session by Willie Collins, John Condon and the Fermoy Concert Band.

The event will also include plenty to see such as the Grey Partridge restoration project, a composting unit where all compostable material generated on site is used, walkways, native tree planting, a butterfly and bee biodiversity garden and winter berry garden in the making.

There will also be minerals and face painting for children, and complimentary bunches of sunflowers, packets of sunflower seeds, tea, coffee and home baking served all day.

Free parking will be available, both at the Corrin Cross car park by kind permission of Coillte, and by a local farmer.

For anybody that cannot make the event on the day and would like to donate they can via www.idonate.ie/crowdfunder/corrinnaturereservesunflower.
