Cork Airport expects 72,000 passengers over August bank holiday weekend

Around 72,000 passengers are expected to travel through Cork Airport over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with Sunday forecast to be the busiest day.

Passengers are being advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before their scheduled departure time.

Tens of thousands of international visitors are expected to arrive in Cork ahead of a packed weekend of festivals and events across the county and the south of Ireland, including Cork Pride, Kinsale Regatta, All Together Now, Cork on a Fork Fest and Schull Regatta.

The airport said it is also experiencing the peak summer travel season, with thousands of families travelling on popular routes including Valencia, London, Alicante, Edinburgh, Zadar, Málaga and Milan.

According to market research, the largest proportion of passengers using Cork Airport from outside Co Cork travel from Waterford, Kerry, Tipperary, Limerick, Kilkenny and Wexford.

Busy weekend expected

Cork Airport Managing Director Niall MacCarthy said he was delighted to see "so many festivals and events taking place right across the region".

"Visitors will notice that our capital programme is well underway, with three live construction sites on the airport campus at present," he said.

"Despite the on-time, on-budget construction activities, the warmth of the welcome and the smoothness of the passenger journey remains unchanged and the best in Ireland. If you haven’t used Cork Airport before, check it out and hold us to that test."

Passengers are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before departure to allow enough time for check-in and baggage drop.

The airport is also reminding travellers that liquids, gels and pastes carried in hand luggage must be in containers of no more than 100ml and placed in a single clear plastic bag.
