Development plan sets out vision for Cork’s county libraries

Cork County Council has officially launched its Library Development Programme 2026–2030 which sets out a vision for the future of library services in Cork.

The five0year roadmap aims to enhance access, inclusion, digital innovation and citizen engagement, to ensure that libraries in Cork will continue to play a central role in their communities into the future.

The plan outlines how the library service in Cork will grow and adapt over the coming years. It focuses on improving services and facilities, responding to changing community needs and making the most of new opportunities.

The plan also sets out proposals to modernise library spaces and services, to deliver flexible physical spaces, along with expanded digital and online resources.

Mayor of the County of Cork Bernard Moynihan said that the library development plan sets out a strong and ambitious vision for the future of library services in the county.

“By investing in our libraries, we are investing in our communities, ensuring that people of all ages have access to opportunities for learning, creativity and connection in modern and welcoming spaces," he said.

“Libraries are at the heart of communities across county Cork, providing spaces for learning, connection and opportunity.” 

Chief executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell said the council was very proud of its library service and the library development plan provides a basis for the county’s ambitions over the coming years.
