Cork-based Argentinian couple hopeful of back-to-back World Cup crowns

Sofia Belen Sosa and her husband Nazareno, who run the Argies Cork bakery, are among those hoping that their home country will win the World Cup on Sunday.

Members of the Argentinian community in Cork are eagerly awaiting Sunday’s World Cup final, with “La Albiceleste” taking on current European champions Spain in a bid to become the first team to win back-to-back crowns since Brazil in 1962.

Sofia Belen Sosa and her husband Nazareno, who run the Argies Cork bakery on the North Mall, will be among those hoping that their home country will win the cup fourth time in its history.

“We want to win and I hope that we win but, in football, anything can happen. But there is one thing that I’m sure of: We will fight until the last minute,” Sofia told The Echo.

“I think that Spain are a really good team as well. They have good players, so it is going to be hard. But we won’t lose our hope.”

Despite a sometimes rocky road to the final, Argentina are a side that do not know when they are beaten, as England found out to their cost in Wednesday's semi-final.

“Argentinians are like that. We are used to fighting until the end. We don’t give up,” said Sofia.
