A well-attended Mayfield summer fun day event took place at Iona/Colmcille Park last Tuesday, where attendees were blessed with great weather.

This was one of several “non-fire” events across the city in an initiative spearheaded by Cork City Council to replace the traditional summer bonfire night.

It was organised by several local groups including Cork City Partnership and Mayfield Community Development Project.

Local councillor Joe Kavanagh attended the event, and said afterwards that he was delighted to have been able to help fund it from his annual ward fund.

He added: “Well done to all the organisers of this fantastic event.”
