Munster Technological University (MTU) has launched a new suite of more than 40 ‘micro’ courses which are designed to support workforce upskilling.

The courses are part of MTU’s initiative to provide flexible, accessible, and future-focused education, addressing emerging skills gaps identified by employers, regulators, state agencies, and not for profit organisations.

They are designed to be immediately applicable in the workplace and are delivered through part time and flexible formats.

The new portfolio comprises more than 40 micro credential courses developed across MTU’s faculties, covering topics ranging from AI, cybersecurity and data analytics, to sustainability, leadership, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, creative practice, financial services and maritime operations.

Proud tradition

Professor Maggie Cusack, president of MTU, said the technological university has a proud tradition of supporting lifelong learning.

“Our new micro credential courses reflect our commitment to providing flexible, accessible and future focused education.

“Developed in collaboration with industry, these courses are designed to help professionals upskill and reskill while responding to real world skills needs.

Gerard O’Donovan, vice-dean of business at MTU and project lead, added: “The strength of MTU’s micro-credential offering lies in its close connection with industry. By working directly with employers and sector stakeholders, we can identify emerging skills needs and translate them into practical, targeted learning opportunities that support workforce development and regional growth.”

The launch was marked by an event at MTU, bringing together employers, industry representatives and education stakeholders to explore the role of flexible learning in supporting workforce development and regional economic growth.
