'Very civil man' called gardaí 'f***ing c****', Cork court told
Judge Catherine Ryan sentenced him to one month in prison on the threatening charge and took the drunkenness into consideration.
A “very civil man” when sober got drunk and called a member of An Garda Síochána a “f***ing c***”.
At Cork District Court last week, Krystian Bernat of Cork Simon Community pleaded guilty to being threatening and abusive and being so intoxicated that he was a source of danger to himself or others.
Judge Catherine Ryan sentenced him to one month in prison on the threatening charge and took the drunkenness into consideration.
Sergeant John Kelleher said that at 3.20pm on May 18 there was a report of three people passed out on North Main Street, a public place.
“Garda Gheorghe Rosu checked the wellbeing of Krystian Bernat and he noticed that he was highly intoxicated. There was a strong smell of alcohol coming from his breath and his speech was slurred.
“Garda Rosu believed the defendant was a danger to himself and others. Mr Bernat became verbally abusive saying to the garda, ‘You f***ing c***’.
Defence solicitor Joseph Cuddigan said:
“On the date in question when the garda came along Mr Bernat had some unopened cans of beer. He was somewhat dismayed at the loss of the beer (which was confiscated) and he made comments to the garda.”
Judge Ryan backdated the sentence to May 19 when the accused was remanded in custody.
