Man denies producing a knife and threatening his brother, Cork court told
It is alleged that, during a dispute, the man produced a small sharp kitchen knife.
A man accused of assault causing harm to his brother, producing a knife and threatening to “finish it with him” denies the charges and now a book of evidence is to be prepared.
Oleh Shevel, aged 43, of 22 Bellview Crescent, Old Youghal Rd, Cork, is charged with assault causing harm to his brother, Roman Shevel, production of a knife and threatening to kill his brother or cause him serious injury on September 16, 2025.
When the matter first came before Cork District Court the presiding judge refused to accept jurisdiction and the case had to be sent back to the DPP for revised directions.
Back in Cork District Court, defence solicitor Shane Collins-Daly said: “He will be pleading not guilty to the charges. A book of evidence will be required.”
On the application of Sergeant John Dineen, Judge Catherine Ryan adjourned the case until July 7 to allow time for preparation and service of a book of evidence.
Sharp kitchen knife
It is alleged that, during a dispute, he produced a small sharp kitchen knife in the course of an assault on his brother and made the threat, Garda Liam English said.
Mr Collins-Daly said at an earlier hearing that the defendant made certain admissions but gave a differing account.
He admitted there was a dispute, he denied making any threat and he said that a third male in the house would back up his version of events.
While there was an initial objection to bail, the defendant was given bail on conditions.
These require him to have no contact with his brother, provide an alternative address within 48 hours, sign daily at Anglesea Street Garda Station, stay away from Old Youghal Rd, and in particular not to go near 22 Bellview Crescent, even if invited, abstain from intoxicants, not carry knives or implements and surrender his passport.
A Ukrainian interpreter translated proceedings for the accused and the interpreter was directed to be present for the next court appearance.
