A man in his 30s has been charged and will appear before the courts charged with a public order offence at a beach in Cork earlier this week.

The man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a knife at Lough Beg Beach near Ringaskiddy on Tuesday.

Gardaí believe he may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that members of the force responded to the incident at the beach, which was busy due to the week’s high temperatures, at approximately 4.30pm on Tuesday afternoon, and that the man has since been charged.

Gardaí also confirmed that no injuries were reported, and that the man will appear before Cork District Court at a later date.
