Management of a popular Asian takeaway in Cork city have called for witnesses to come forward following an incident of criminal damage and theft in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident, involving one man, occurred at Panda Asian Street Food on the Evergreen Rd in Turner's Cross at approximately 4.15am.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed to The Echo that an investigation into the incident has since been launched.

“Gardaí are investigating reports of a burglary at a premises in Turner’s Cross, Cork city, that occurred [on Sunday]” the spokesperson said.

“A full report is awaited.”

In a post shared on social media, a spokesperson for the takeaway premises said they "never thought we’d ever have to post something like this, but unfortunately Panda Asian Street Food was broken into and robbed early this morning”.

"A young male smashed our window and broke into the premises, stealing our monitor and till,” the spokesperson said.

“In the process, he ripped the screen from the socket, causing major damage to wiring throughout the shop.

“He then returned again at approximately 4:35am, where he took drinks before leaving for a second time.

“It’s really upsetting seeing a small family business targeted like this, especially knowing the hard work, long hours, and sacrifice that goes on behind the scenes every single day,” they added.

“Gardaí are currently investigating the incident.

“If anyone saw anything suspicious around the Turners Cross area at these times, or has any CCTV or dashcam footage, we would really appreciate you reaching out to us privately.

"Any piece of information could help," they said.

"Despite everything, we will be open as usual today."
