This Sunday, RTÉ’s cameras will soar to heights more usually associated with Cork’s goldy angel, as the wildlife programme Back From The Brink visits the east tower of St Fin Barre’s Cathedral.
Viewers will meet a breeding pair of peregrine falcons, Makeda and Soloman.
Long-term residents of the cathedral, Makeda and Solomon last year produced a female chick which was named Hope by children from one of the local schools.
Eoin Murphy, operations manager of St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, said the cathedral’s programme of conservation has been supported by St Fin Barre’s Quarter Development Group, Birdwatch Ireland, and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
“Makeda and Solomon are apex predators and representative of the great biodiversity that is thriving in the heart of the city, and of the important amenity value of our grounds,” he said.
The programme is hosted by in-the-news RTÉ presenter and producer Derek Mooney.
