Cork student wins EirGrid Cleaner Climate Award

Elroy Antony Sijo from Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal, winner of the EirGrid Cleaner Climate Award with Eoghan O’Sullivan, EirGrid community liaison officer, at the SciFest Regional Competition, SETU, Waterford.

A student from Pobalscoil na Tríonóide in Youghal has been awarded the prestigious EirGrid Cleaner Climate Award at the SciFest@College 2026 regional final.

The award honours a project that demonstrates technical excellence and a meaningful contribution to energy and environmental sustainability.

Elroy Antony Sijo impressed judges with his project that investigated which wind turbine blade design produces the most energy.

SciFest@College is a nationwide series of Stem fairs for second-level students held across 16 regional colleges across Ireland.

EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland’s electricity system, presents the Cleaner Climate Award in recognition of the role young people play in building a more sustainable future.

Congratulating Elroy on his successful project, Orlaith Diamond, head of sustainability at EirGrid, said: “We recognise that nurturing the next generation of problem solvers and innovators is essential to building a clean, resilient energy system.”
