Attendees at the event will also learn about nature-based solutions and citizen science initiatives.
The Irish Environmental Network and Cork County Public Participation Network (PPN) are holding a joint launch event for National Biodiversity Week on Sunday in Cork.
Taking place at the Little Island Sports Complex from 10am until 4.30pm, there will be a number of guest speakers including ecologist Karen Loxton, who will discuss how a biodiversity action plan works in practice.
Attendees at the event will also learn about nature-based solutions and citizen science initiatives.
The day will conclude with a guided walk through Harper's Island wetlands with Birdwatch Ireland and take part in a bioblitz along the way.
Catherine O’Toole, co-ordinator of national biodiversity week, said she was excited to launch this year’s biodiversity week.
“It promises to be a fun, practical and meaningful event that will provide people with an opportunity to connect with nature and learn how to take action to allow wildlife to thrive alongside of us.
"We’re delighted to kick the week off in Cork with lots to see and do in Little Island on Sunday.”
Noel Forde, chairperson of Cork County PPN added: “Cork County PPN are delighted to be hosting the launch of National Biodiversity week in conjunction with the Irish Environmental Network.
“This promises to be a very informative day, with an impressive array of speakers covering a wide variety of topics."
National Biodiversity Week is organised by the Irish Environmental Network (IEN), with thanks to funding from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
