Cork City Council is due to make a decision on the application by June 17.

Planning permission is being sought for the construction of a large residential development (LRD) in the heart of Cork city’s northside.

An application, lodged by Pontorac Limited, was submitted to Cork City Council last week, seeking permission to construct a 104-dwelling LRD at a part-greenfield, part-brownfield site on Popes Road in Blackpool.

The proposed development, which will reach between two and four storeys in height, will see the demolition of four terraced dwellings and ancillary buildings, to be replaced by a single three-bed detached bungalow, spanning 116sq m, as well as the construction of 103 townhouses and duplex apartments, spanning 11,096sq m.

The development will comprise 50 townhouses, of which three will be two-bed units, 39 will be three-bed units, and eight will be four-bed units, as well as 53 duplex apartments, of which 18 will be one-bed dwellings, six will be two-bed dwellings, and 29 will be three-bed dwellings.

The plans also include a 217sq m ground floor crèche, which will have the capacity to accommodate up to 38 children.

Provisions will also be made for 104 car parking spaces, 128 cycle spaces, up to 25 EV charging points and up to 12 motorcycle spaces, as well as internal roads and pathways, and several communal and public open spaces.

Cork City Council is due to make a decision on the application by June 17, with observations accepted until May 27.
