US grand marshall honour for Cork native in San Diego
Carrigaline native Mairtín de Cógáin Grand Marshall of 2026 St Patrick's Day Parade in San Diego, California, with his sons Finn and Milo and his wife Mitra de Cógáin.
Carrigaline man Máirtín de Cógáin, now resident in San Diego, was this year chosen as the Grand Marshall for the city's St Patrick’s Day parade.
San Diego in southern California is the eighth largest city in the United States and has a large Irish community.
Máirtín is very involved in promoting Ireland and Irish culture in the US.
He organises bus tours once or twice a year bringing Americans to visit lesser known gems of Irish historical interest.
Máirtín, a well-known entertainer, featured on TG4 Geantraí programme on St Patrick’s Night.
The programme was recorded on the recent Joannie Madden Caribbean cruise where Máirtín was interviewed as Gaeilge and sang an Poc Ar Buile along with the presenter Cathy Jordan.
