Almost 300 students were honoured by Cork ETB at a recent awards ceremony celebrating exceptional performance in the Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) exams.

The ceremony, attended by more than 850 people, including families, school leaders, and educators, saw a total of 298 students from schools across Cork awarded.

These included 20 students from 10 different schools who were recognised for achieving the maximum of 625 points in the Leaving Certificate.

There were a further 135 students recognised for achieving between 576 and 625 points; 69 students recognised for achieving between 552 and 576 points; and 25 students recognised with a Student of the Year award.

Additionally, there were 29 LCA students in receipt of a special commendation certificate for achieving between 85% and 89% in their exams; as well as 40 LCA students in receipt of a Tomás Ó Conaill Medal for achieving between 90% and 99% in their exams.

The guest of honour on the night, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork, councillor Margaret McDonnell, praised the students’ dedication and the support of families and schools.

“Education is the foundation upon which we build our futures, and the success of these young people is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering encouragement of their families, teachers, and schools,” said Ms McDonnell.

“Their achievements reflect not just academic excellence but a strong commitment to growth and contribution to their communities.”

Chief executive of Cork ETB, Denis Leamy, said the students’ “exceptional results place you among the top achievers nationally”.

“This moment belongs not only to you but also to your families, who have supported you every step of the way,” said Mr Leamy.
