A statement from An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a serious assault in Blackrock, Cork city on Sunday March 15, 2026, shortly before 1am.

A teenager was hospitalised in the early hours of Sunday morning following a stabbing incident after a gathering in Cork city.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of a serious assault, which occurred just before 1am on Sunday morning.

Arriving at the scene, they found a boy in his late teens had suffered a stabbing injury and was seriously injured.

The teenager, who had earlier been attending an 18th birthday party, was brought to Cork University Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

ARRESTED

A boy, also in his teens, was arrested and brought to a garda station in Cork city, where he remains detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. He can be questioned for a period of up to 24 hours.

It is understood that gardaí intend to speak with the injured party once he is well enough to do so.

A statement from An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a serious assault in Blackrock, Cork city on Sunday March 15, 2026, shortly before 1am.

“An adult male (aged in his late teens) was conveyed Cork University Hospital for treatment of injuries.

“A male juvenile was arrested and detained at a Garda Station in the Cork city under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Investigations are ongoing.”

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or may have been present in the area at the time the incident occurred to contact Anglesea Street 021 4522000, or the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
