Excavation works are ongoing in the Maryborough and Carr's Hill areas as part of the M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy road project.

Works are continuing across several key locations along the route of the M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy road project.

In the Rochestown area, construction of the retaining walls near the N28 off ramp remains ongoing, with crews progressing steadily.

At Carr’s Hill, excavation and filling operations along the westbound verge are scheduled to recommence this week and will continue for the coming months.

Excavation works for the new Maryborough to Carr’s Hill link road have now begun, and construction of a retaining wall in this area is due to commence shortly.

Further south at Shannon Park, drainage works are now underway as part of the broader infrastructure programme.

In addition, work on the north abutment of Structure 6 at Shannon Park has commenced, marking another important step in the progression of structural works in this section of the project.

Traffic management measures

A number of traffic management measures remain in place to safely facilitate ongoing works.

On the Rochestown off ramp from the existing N28, a lane closure is currently in effect, with one lane remaining open for the next couple of weeks to allow for the continued construction of the new retaining wall.

Along the southbound N28 between Maryborough and Carr’s Hill, the hard shoulder remains closed.

At Carr’s Hill, one of the two lanes beneath the underbridge will be closed shortly, and this measure will remain in place for several months to support upcoming works in this area.

Traffic management has also been implemented on the R855 and R609 (Carrigaline Road), east of the N28, where flagmen are in operation during working hours to manage plant crossings.

These operations are weather dependent due to ongoing earthworks.

Intermittent flagman controlled plant crossings are also active on the Board of Works Road during working hours, subject to weather conditions.

On the Ballinrea Road, flagmen remain in place for plant crossings, and traffic management is in effect along the verge of the R611.

Night works

Night works are scheduled here this week for one night to facilitate a drainage road crossing, during which traffic will be managed by a stop/go system.

The existing N28 climbing lane between Rochestown and Carr’s Hill will close at the end of March for approximately six months, reducing the route to a single lane in each direction for that time period.

There will be no rock excavation by means of controlled blasting in the coming weeks.
