Developer Kilknockan Partnership has sought planning permission to construct a National Car Testing Centre at a site located on the N20 in the townlands of Kilknockan and Lackanalooha in Mallow.

A new NCT centre could open in North Cork under plans recently submitted to the county council.

Developer Kilknockan Partnership has sought planning permission to construct a National Car Testing Centre at a site located on the N20 in the townlands of Kilknockan and Lackanalooha in Mallow.

The proposed two-storey building would be accompanied by car parking, a bicycle shelter, EV charging area, as well as associated site development works, including internal pedestrian access, internal access road, footpaths, new signage, public lighting, landscaping work, and boundary treatments.

Improvement works are also proposed for the existing site entrance onto the N20, including the provision of a right-hand turning lane on the N20 to facilitate access to the site.

Cork County Council is due to decide on the plans by April 24, 2026.

Meanwhile, plans for a new betting shop in Youghal have been lodged with the local authority.

Developer Mynah Unlimited Co is seeking planning permission for the change of use of a former bank on North Main Street in Youghal to a betting shop on the ground floor level.

It is also seeking to construct a single-storey rear extension at the ground-floor level to provide auxiliary storage for the proposed betting facility.

For the upper floors, the developer has lodged plans to convert these from offices into two apartments over four levels in total.

Cork County Council is due to decide on the application by April 23, 2026.
