The Cork King Colis pop-up shop opens at Douglas Court Shopping Centre at 10am today.

A ‘lost packages’ pop-up store opens in Douglas Court Shopping Centre today, with ten tonnes of mystery parcels up for grabs.

Buyers will be unaware of what’s inside each parcel until after they make their purchase.

The sense of surprise has helped make the concept a hit in other European cities, where people have bagged high-tech gadgets, household goods, and even a rare Pokémon card valued at €3,000.

Second life

With millions of packages going undelivered across Europe each year, French firm King Colis decided to step in and give these parcels a second life rather than see them destroyed by logistics companies.

Packages are sold by weight, with visitors given 10 minutes to choose what they want to buy. The only rule is that parcels cannot be opened until after purchase.

King Colis said the concept contributes to an eco-friendly approach that promotes the circular economy while helping to reduce the carbon footprint associated with waste.

King Colis CEO and co-founder, Killian Denis urged people to get to Douglas Court early.“The turnout elsewhere has been great so I advise anyone thinking about coming to get down early as stock is limited. You never know what you’ll get.”
