Cork North-West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea said that the works will accommodate future housing in the area.

Uisce Éireann is to start work this month on a new €13.4m wastewater treatment plant in Castlemagner, north of Mallow.

The existing wastewater infrastructure dates back to the 1950s and consists of a septic tank that is designed for a population equivalent of 50.

The new treatment plant to be constructed will increase capacity to 500, ensuring environmental compliance and providing capacity for future development.

The project is due to get underway before the end of the month and will be delivered by Glanua Ireland on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in early 2028.

Cork North-West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea said that the works will accommodate future housing in the area.

“This investment will not only improve water quality and environmental protection, but it will also help unlock future opportunities for housing and economic development in Castlemagner.”

The project is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s small towns and villages growth programme, which is designed to support development in towns, while protecting the environment and ensuring the continued supply of safe drinking water.
