Gardaí discovered €70,000 worth of cannabis in one of the Cork homes.

Drugs unit gardaí uncovered €70,000 worth of cannabis and €49,000 worth of cocaine — together with cash totalling just over €29,000 — from two different locations in Cork city.

At Cork District Court, a man facing multiple charges arising out of the investigation has been remanded in custody until February 19.

Jake O’Sullivan, aged 25, with an address at a room in Achill House, Western Rd, Cork, and, formerly of Fairfield Rd, Farranree, Cork, was brought before Cork District Court.

Det Garda Ryan Dillon of the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit told how gardaí carried out a search at a property on Fairfield Rd, Farranree on February 10 and discovered €70,000 worth of cannabis, €49,000 worth of cocaine, and €16,515 in cash.

The detective said they then conducted a follow up search at Achill House, Western Rd, Cork.

He said they found the second sum of cash — €12,600 — together with a weighing scales at a room at Achill House on Western Rd where the accused had been staying.

O’Sullivan was charged with possessing cannabis, possessing cocaine, possessing cannabis for sale or supply and possessing cocaine for sale or supply at the Fairfield Rd address.

He was also charged with possessing cannabis in relation to the cannabis found at Achill House and with money laundering in relation to the €12,600 found in the room during the same search.

He said gardaí were objecting to bail due to the seriousness of the charges as well as the strength of the evidence against O’Sullivan including evidence on his phone of drug dealing.

He said that when gardaí arrested and questioned O’Sullivan, he admitted drug addiction and having a substantial drugs debt.

Cross-examined by defence solicitor Shane Collins Daly, the detective agreed Mr O’Sullivan had been co-operative, but he said there were no bail conditions that would satisfy gardaí to grant him bail.

Judge Miriam Walsh refused bail and remanded him in custody to appear again at Cork District Court by video link on February 19.
