Sculptor and musician to take part in Cork School of Music symposium
The UK Turner Prize-winning conceptual sculptor and musician, Martin Creed, who is among the guest speakers at the annual MAKE Symposium which will take place on Saturday 7th March from 10am until 5pm at MTU Cork School of Music on Union Quay, Cork.
The annual 'Make' symposium will take place on Saturday March 7 at MTU Cork School of Music on Union Quay in Cork.
With the theme of this year’s event being ‘Materiality and Sound’, the day-long gathering from 10am until 5pm will feature several speakers on the theme of sound and objects in art practice.
Among the guest speakers include the UK Turner prizewinning conceptual sculptor and musician Martin Creed and the Canadian academic Helen A Fielding, who writes about responding to sound in art practice.
The Cork sculptor Vivienne Roche will explore the influence and imagery of sound in her practice.
There will also be a presentation by EJ Tech, a Budapest duo who augment objects like cloth digitally with sound.
An exhibition to accompany the symposium will open at 5.30pm at the MTU Crawford College of Art and Design Gallery.
‘Whisper’ will feature student artworks that combine material and sound, explore the visual language of sound waves or evoke whispering in a visual language.
