North Monastery Co-educational Secondary School has shared the exciting news that not one but two former students have been nominated for an Irish Film & Television Award (IFTA), Jamie Forde and Daniel Power.

Both were nominated for their roles in Christy, shot on location primarily in Knocknaheeny and also in Cork’s city centre, which has emerged as the IFTA nominations leader, having been shortlisted in 14 categories.

Christy tells the story of a young Cork man’s search for independence as he leaves the foster-care system.

Daniel Power, Emma Willis and Jamie Forde have all been nominated in the First-Time Acting Nominees category, with Christy also shortlisted for several awards including Best Film, Actor (Daniel Power) and Director (Brendan Canty).

NTA funding for Cork city

The 2026 Active Travel allocations include a number of projects across the Cork City North West Ward, focused on safer walking routes, better local links and long-term connectivity, local Fine Gael councillor Damian Boylan has said.

Key investments include €60,000 for linking the Cloghneimlcon Sanctuary Walkway to Blarney Business Park, making walking and cycling a realistic option for workers and visitors; €140,000 for the Kerry Pike Pedestrian Improvement Scheme and €50,000 for Nash’s Boreen Active Travel Scheme.

€1.5m was also provided to progress route selection for the Northern Distributor Road, which Mr Boylan described as “a critical long-term project to improve connectivity and reduce pressure on existing roads in the North West”.

The funding also includes Safe Routes to School allocations to local schools, including North Monastery Primary / Scoil Mhuire Fatima, Strawberry Hill National School and Scoil Bernadette.

Mr Boylan said: “This is delivery-focused funding — named projects, with budgets attached, that improve safety, access and connectivity across the North West.”
