Man urinated on boxes of shoes in Cork city store, court told
Judge Mary Dorgan directed the defendant to attend the probation service, and adjourned the matter until March 18 to make sure he is attending.
A 61-year-old man urinated over six boxes of shoes at a Cork city centre store and now he has pleaded guilty at Cork District Court to charges including causing criminal damage to the property.
Kevin White of no fixed address appeared in the dock at the court where he pleaded guilty to two more charges of being so intoxicated that he was a danger to himself or others on two other occasions.
Sergeant Gearóid Davis outlined the background to the charge of damaging property.
“On October 3, 2024, he was highly intoxicated at Guiney’s on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork, at 2.30pm. He proceeded to urinate on six boxes of shoes causing damage to them before leaving the shop.
“The boxes were no longer in a saleable condition. The total value of the shoes was €200.”
On two more recent occasions in Cork city the same man, Kevin White, was found to be so intoxicated that he was a danger to himself or others.
On December 4, 2025, the drunken behaviour came to light at Cornmarket Street.
The following day it occurred on the same street, but this time it happened inside the Lidl supermarket.
Sgt Davis said the defendant had 43 previous convictions.
Eddie Burke solicitor outlined the background situation whereby the defendant worked all his life up to the age of 55 but that he experienced personal tragedies and drank heavily to the point where he had nowhere to live.
Mr Burke said the accused wanted to address his difficulties and that this approach, rather than a custodial sentence, might help Mr White and effectively, help society also.
Judge Mary Dorgan said she would put him on a 12-month probation bond.
At that point, Kevin White spoke up from the dock, saying: “I’m not doing no probation.”
Judge Dorgan said that he could do four months in prison on the criminal damage charge in that event. Mr Burke consulted with him briefly and said he would take the option of the probation bond.
Judge Dorgan said that in light of the uncertainty created by the defendant around the probation bond, she would direct him to attend the probation service and she adjourned the matter until March 18 to make sure he is attending, and if he was she would put him on the probation bond.
