Cork city and county councils have confirmed reduced opening hours for several public amenities due to icy weather conditions today.

Following Storm Goretti, which saw Met Éireann issue a status yellow snow and rain warning for Cork yesterday, hazardous driving and walking conditions have been reported across Cork this morning.

According to posts on social media, heavy snow was seen across areas of West Cork yesterday, with several reports of black ice on roads across Glanmire, Watergrasshill, Carrigaline, Midleton, Ballinhassig, Minane Bridge and Belgooly today.

As a result of these icy conditions, several road traffic collisions have been reported across these areas, with motorists advised to take caution on approach and to avoid travelling unless necessary.

Further, due to the adverse weather conditions, a spokesperson for Cork City Council said the Tramore Valley Park and Tramore Valley Civic Amenity Site will remain closed until further notice this afternoon.

“Tramore Valley Park will remain closed this morning because widespread black ice is causing hazardous walking/running and driving conditions in both the park and at the Civic Amenity Site,” the spokesperson said.

“The park will reopen once it is safe to do so, [and] updates will be provided later.”

Additionally, a spokesperson for Cork County Council announced that the Bandon Civic Amenity Site and Kanturk Civic Amenity Site will also remain closed until this afternoon.

“The Bandon Civic Amenity Site will remain closed to the public until 1.30pm today,” the spokesperson said.

“The Kanturk Civic Amenity Site is currently closed [as well], but is expected to reopen at 1.30pm following reassessment by council staff.

“Further updates will be shared on our social media channels - thank you for your patience and please stay safe on the roads.”
