Santa, the Defence Forces, and even the Grinch lent a helping hand as Kinsale and District Lions Club partnered with Cork University Hospital (CUH) Charity to bring its annual toy drop to children who will be spending time in hospital over Christmas.
All donated toys were formally handed over to CUH Charity, with Kinsale Lions Club volunteers and emergency services personnel organising distribution to the children at CUH, Mercy University Hospital, and South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, along with several local charities.
Among those in attendance was Taoiseach Micheál Martin, who said it was “truly heartwarming” to see the community come together to bring a smile to young faces.
“The generosity shown by Kinsale Lions Club, CUH Charity, MMD Construction, our emergency services, Cork GAA players, and the wider public reflects the very best of Cork,” said Mr Martin. “Bringing joy to young patients at Christmas is a wonderful reminder of the kindness and solidarity that define our community.”

Cork GAA inter-county stars including Mark Cronin, Micheál Aodh Martin, Aoife O’Neill, Laura O’Mahony, and Saoirse McCarthy were among those supporting the event, along with the Defence Forces, emergency services, and the Army Band.

Kinsale and District Lions Club president Cormac Fitzgerald said the toy drop, supported by MMD Construction, ensures that every child in hospital at this time of the year can experience the warmth and magic of the Christmas season.
“The response has been nothing short of phenomenal,” said Mr Fitzgerald. “We are deeply grateful for the generosity of the public and our corporate supporters. A warm thanks must go to the Defence Forces and the Army Band, whose enthusiasm and support helped make the day truly unforgettable.”

Claire Concannon of CUH Charity said the annual toy drop is one of the most loved charity appeals in Cork.
“The support this initiative receives is immense,” she said. “We were thrilled to be part of it once again. The backing of the entire community makes it such a success, with the core aim of lifting the spirits of those children who will spend time in hospital over Christmas.”
