Met Éireann has said Cork can expect persistent rainfall for the duration of the warning, turning heavy at times, resulting in localised flooding and difficult travel conditions. Picture Chani Anderson.  

Cork is set to get a wet and windy start to December after Met Éireann issued a status yellow rainfall warning for Cork and Kerry, with persistent rainfall expected from Sunday afternoon through to Monday morning. 

The weather warning will come into effect from 2pm on Sunday and remain in place until 9am on Monday morning. 

The national forecaster has warned that Cork can expect persistent rainfall for the duration of the warning, turning heavy at times, resulting in localised flooding and difficult travel conditions for motorists. 

Met Éireann said tonight (Saturday) will be a cold and mostly clear night with a few sporadic rain showers. 

Frost and possibly some ice will form in places with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees. Light westerly or variable breezes with allow mist and some fog patches to develop.

Sunday morning will be predominantly dry and bright, with isolated rain showers. Cloud will build into the early afternoon, with heavy and persistent rainfall in fresh to strong southerly winds. 

Motorists are advised to exercise caution during the warning period and allow extra time for journeys. 

People living in areas that may be prone to flooding are advised to closely monitor the weather conditions and take any appropriate precautions.
