A man and a woman have been taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) following a road traffic collision in the early hours of this morning.

The incident, involving one vehicle, occurred in the Ballintemple/Ballinlough area, at the junction of Crab Lane and the Boreenmanna Road, at approximately 1.40am.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, after a vehicle collided with a wall and subsequently burst into flames.

Prior to the collision, the vehicle had struck a second car, which was parked on the street, knocking bollards and a tree, before hitting the stone wall.

It also narrowly missed another parked car, before colliding with the wall.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told The Echo that a man and a woman, both aged in their 20s, were taken to CUH as a precaution.

The scene was sealed off close to Páirc Uí Rinn, to allow for a technical examination, which has since been completed.

Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.
