The NTA has confirmed that the service is in the final stages of planning, with commencement dependent on the availability of resources and funding.

A proposed new bus service to link Mallow and Killarney has been approved by the National Transport Authority (NTA).

The new service, Route 515, will link the North Cork and Co Kerry towns, and will serve the villages of Ballyclough, Castlemagner, Kanturk, Boherbue, Knocknagree, Rathmore, Gneeveguilla, and Kilcummin en route.

The NTA has confirmed that the service is in the final stages of planning, with commencement dependent on the availability of resources and funding.

When operational, it will provide up to six return daily services.

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea said that the service will be welcomed by the communities it will serve.

“Reliable public transport is vital for connecting people across rural North Cork and Kerry, supporting access to work, education, healthcare, and local amenities,” Mr O’Shea said.

“I look forward to working closely with Local Link Cork, the National Transport Authority, and all other stakeholders to ensure this important new service becomes a reality over the coming months.

“This is another strong step forward in improving rural transport links.

“I will continue to work to ensure our communities have access to the reliable, frequent, and modern public transport they deserve.”

Local Fine Gael councillor Tony O’Shea said that the new bus route will be a game changer for local residents.

“It will greatly enhance connectivity between our main town in Mallow and villages and make travel far easier for families, students, and older people.”
