A man in his 60s has died in an overnight house fire in Cork city.

The fire broke out in a dwelling on Noonan’s Rd at around 3am on Sunday morning, with firefighters from Cork City Fire Brigade attending the scene.

Firefighters had to use breathing equipment to gain access to the premises, and at 3.37am they were able to recover a man in his 60s, who was unconscious, from the building.

The man was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead some time afterward.

A postmortem is due to be carried out later.

A garda investigation is ongoing.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating a fatal house fire that occurred in the early hours of this morning Sunday November 23 at approximately 3am at a residential property on Noonan Road, Cork.

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene and one male, aged in his 60s, was removed from the scene to Cork University Hospital, where he later passed away.

“A post mortem will take place in due course.

“The scene is currently preserved and investigations ongoing.”
