Busy night for Cork City Fire Brigade
Victor Shine, second officer with Cork City Fire Brigade, told it had “a reasonably busy night” in the city for the fire service.
Three crews from Cork City Fire Brigade spent several hours battling “a complex fire” at a bungalow on Lovers Walk during a busy Thursday night.
The fire broke out shortly after 6pm, with the fire service receiving a call at 6.33pm.
The blaze was described as complex by fire crews, with thick smoke billowing out across the area and neighbours being advised at the time to keep windows and doors closed.
There are five homes close to the bungalow, with access down a pathway, and there were some initial concerns that the fire might spread.
The lone occupant of the house was treated for minor smoke inhalation by an ambulance crew attending the scene.
Crews brought the scene under control quickly and spent more than three hours damping down the site until the fire was completely out, with an inspection completed at 10.34pm.
Victor Shine, second officer with Cork City Fire Brigade, told it had “a reasonably busy night” in the city for the fire service.
“We had an automatic fire alarm going off at 6.07pm, at 6.20pm we had a two-year-old trapped in a car outside a supermarket on the northside, and at 9.33pm, we had a person threatening to jump into the river at Anderson’s Quay,” he said.
“We had fire crews and the coast guard respond to that, and the big one was the fire on Lovers Walk, that went on until 10.34pm.
“We had a chimney fire a 11pm, with the cold weather that’s something we’re starting to see, and at fifteen minutes past midnight we had a car fire.
“And we had an outdoor fire on the southside at 3.48am.
“And that was a normal enough night for us.”
