Extra RSV immunisation clinics open in Cork

Cork care centers are now offering new immunisation programme to protect newborn babies against RSV

The HSE has announced additional appointments for RSV immunisation in Cork.

Babies born between March 1 and August 31 are eligible for appointments.

HSE South West specialist registrar in public health medicine Rebecca Marshall said there has been “a fantastic response to the immunisation campaign, and it’s reassuring that so many babies are now protected from RSV”.

“We are running a small number of additional clinics over the next few weeks,” said Dr Marshall. “We strongly encourage any family who hasn’t yet made an appointment to do so as soon as possible.

“RSV immunisation provides great protection for your baby.

“Before the immunisation programme was introduced, four out of every 100 infants were hospitalised each winter due to RSV.

“This free immunisation works really well and protects small babies from RSV.”

Clinics will take place in:

  • Westfield Integrated Care Centre, Main St, Ballincollig
  • Blackrock Hall Primary Care Centre
  • Carrigtwohill Primary Care Centre
  • St Mary’s Primary Care Centre, Gurranabraher
  • Mallow Primary Care Centre
  • Clonakilty Primary Care Centre
  • Bantry Vaccination Centre.

Appointments can be booked online at: www2.hse.ie/conditions/rsv/immunisation.
