Motorists are urged to exercise caution as several Cork city roads will close this evening due to flooding.

Cork City Council have announced that several quayside roads will be closed due to flooding caused by high spring tides, with motorists urged to exercise caution when travelling through low-lying areas of the city centre.

Wandesford Quay and Union Quay will be closed to all traffic, whilst one eastbound lane on Lavitts Quay has also been shut.

The closures are in place as a precautionary measure whilst high spring tides continue to affect the city's low-lying quayside routes.

A period of very high astronomical spring tides begins today, Wednesday, November 5 and is expected to last until Saturday evening, November 8.

Motorists are advised to avoid the affected routes and seek alternative pathways through the city centre. The road closures are expected to remain in place until water levels recede.

Drivers should expect delays and plan journeys accordingly.
