A man has been arrested in North Cork following the seizure of a quantity of drugs, three suspected firearms and ammunition.

A man has been arrested in North Cork following the seizure of a quantity of drugs, three suspected firearms and ammunition.

Late on Tuesday night, members of An Garda Síochána observed a vehicle “acting suspiciously” while on duty in the Lissanisky area along the Mallow Road.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told The Echo that following this observation, the driver was stopped, and a subsequent search of the vehicle took place.

As a result of the search, Gardaí discovered and seized a quantity of cocaine, along with three suspected firearms and ammunition.

The driver of the vehicle, a man aged in his 40s, was arrested and taken to a garda station in Cork.

The man is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Following the arrest and seizure of the illicit items, further searches were conducted at a domestic residence in Cork city on Wednesday.

The Irish Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was in attendance at the residence to assist in these follow up searches.

The garda spokesperson additionally said that “enquiries are ongoing at this time and further developments will be reported.”
