The Voices of Cork community choir are holding their 20th anniversary gala dinner at the Address Hotel on November 15.
The gala event was launched recently by the Lord Mayor of Cork Fergal Dennehy.
Voices of Cork is a four-part harmony community choir which aims to provide good choral music within the community and welcomes new members regardless of prior experience.
Members of the choir are drawn from all over Cork and beyond, across a range of ages and from diverse backgrounds.
The choir is run by a committee who are all members of the choir, whose range includes popular songs, ballads and jazz.
Sarah Moroney of the Voices of Cork choir told The Echo about her excitement ahead of the 20th anniversary celebration.
“Like everyone during covid times, the choir nearly folded,” she said.
“So, we have risen from the ashes in the last couple of years. The gala means a lot. We still have members that were in the choir that were there since its inception. It is a huge deal to the choir, to be able to celebrate 20 years of singing.

We are more of a group. We have three sets of mothers and daughters. The choir is all about family.
“Most people that join the choir do so not because they were any great at singing, but because they felt they wanted to be part of something bigger.”
She added: “The 20th anniversary celebration is a celebration of all of that and a celebration of community.
It will be a great opportunity to mix the past with the present, celebrating the history of the choir and then look forward to what it will bring us for the future.”
Ms Moroney described the choir as an important part of her weekly routine and said it has played a big role in her life .
“For years my mother said you will have to join the choir.
"I eventually caved and she convinced me to join.
“For me the choir is the two hours in the week where I go in and you have to forget about everything else that is going on in your life.”
