At the latest Cork City North East Ward local area meeting, councillors decided to implement several traffic calming measures across the area through a €100,000 investment in traffic calming measures.

This includes two ramps each in Kilcully, Brooklodge East national school, Ballincollie Road to Lower Dublin Hill, Hazelwood Road to Hazelwood Avenue, Kilcully to Ballinihinna and Ballinderry Park.

A further four ramps will be delivered at Silversprings Court & Lawn, while one ramp each will be introduced in Tracton Estate, Ashmount Mews, Silverheights Road and Glenthorn Drive.

Labour’s John Maher welcomed the traffic calming measures approved, saying that voting in favour of the council’s proposed budget each year was essential to get funding for community improvement projects like these.

He said: “I know there’s more to do, but these will be a good start to 2026. This is what supporting budgets delivers for communities across Cork.”

Updates on roadworks

A full road closure of the L3010 at John O’Callaghan Park has been in place on Tuesday, October 28, and will remain in effect through to Sunday, November 16.

Updates on roadworks

Local access will be maintained to Meadowbrook estate.

A stop/go traffic management system will continue to be in place on the R639 north of Glanmire Bridge this week, while another stop/go system is now established on New Line Rd at Brooklodge Culvert and will remain in place this week.

All local businesses within the Glanmire and Sallybrook area remain open and will be operational as usual, as Sorensen Civil Engineering continue works as part of the Glashaboy flood relief scheme.

The project is scheduled for completion in December.

Toy appeal

Glanmire’s annual toy appeal, which has been running for over three decades, will be collecting toys for the needy in the area on November outside Elevate Credit Union Glanmire.

New toys would be much appreciated, and Anna in U Party, located in Crestfield shopping centre, will also accept donations.

Church events

This year, the Annual Remembrance Masses will take place on November 8 and 9 in Our Lady Crowned Church, St Joseph’s Church, and Holy Family Church.

Mayfield’s Fr Charlie Kiely told The Echo: “The month of November is when we reach out and remember our dead.

“All who died in our community during the past year will be remembered in a special way and all families have been contacted.”

Additionally, Baptism preparation meetings with families will be held on November 15 and December 13, at 12 noon, at Our Lady Crowned Church.

Glanmire Chamber of Commerce and Glanmire Area Community Association have announced that the lighting of the Christmas tree in Glanmire will take place on November 30.

A festive community event will be held from 4pm to 6pm in the Crestfield Centre, featuring entertainment, a Christmas market, children’s activities including a merry go round and a visit from Santa.
