Nano Nagle Place has launched its 2025 Threads of Remembrance campaign, an invitation for people to come together, honour loved ones, and support the work of the facility.

Building on last year’s Crochet Hearts of Remembrance, the campaign continues the tradition of remembrance through crochet hearts made by the Lantern Project’s Crochet Ladies and blessed by the resident Presentation Sisters. Each heart represents a life, a memory, and a story.

This year, the spirit of the campaign is brought to life through a new handmade textile mural created by Lantern Project tutor and artist Isabelle O’Neill.

The mural and hearts are on display in the gift shop at Nano Nagle Place on Douglas St, Cork, where visitors are invited to pause, reflect, and add their own crochet heart and memory in tribute, so the mural will continue to grow.

People can take part by visiting Nano Nagle Place to add a crochet heart in person, or by making a donation online, with the team adding a heart on their behalf.

Donations to Threads of Remembrance help to sustain the community work inspired by Nano Nagle’s legacy, supporting programmes in education, inclusion, and social justice.

“Threads of Remembrance is more than a campaign. It’s a gentle space for reflection, connection, and love, a way for us all to remember those who are gone but never forgotten,” said John Smith, CEO of Nano Nagle Place, which operates as a registered charity.

“And while it’s a fundraising campaign, it’s first and foremost about community, about coming together in memory and in hope.

“Each donation, no matter the size, helps us continue Nano’s work of compassion, inclusion, and community. It’s a way of turning remembrance into hope.”

A Threads of Remembrance Concert will be held in the Goldie Chapel at Nano Nagle Place on Tuesday, November 18, featuring the MTU Gospel Choir. All are welcome. The concert will also be streamed live for Nano Nagle’s international community.
