Two arrested as stolen scissor lift is taken for joyride in Cork city

The stolen scissor lift being driven near Oliver Plunkett Street on Sunday.

Two people were arrested in Cork city yesterday night after a scissor lift was stolen and driven down the streets of Cork city centre.

Videos which have been shared widely on social media show four men on top of the stolen utility vehicle travelling though Patrick St and Oliver Plunkett St.

A garda spokesperson told The Echo that two of the men were arrested and detained at South Gate Bridge, after the stolen vehicle was reported.

The spokesperson said: “Gardaí responded to an unauthorised taking of a utility vehicle at St Patrick’s Quay, Cork city on Sunday 2 November 2025 at approximately 8:30pm.

“The vehicle was located on South Gate Bridge, Cork city and two men were arrested and detained under the Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Cork city.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
