A journalist from The Echo and EchoLive.ie has been shortlisted for this year’s Shine Mental Health Media Awards.

The awards recognise excellence in Irish media coverage of mental health across all platforms.

News reporter Amy Campbell has been nominated for her article ‘Cork mum’s plea for improved eating disorder services’.

Ms Campbell has previously been nominated for a Local Ireland media award and for a Justice Media award.

Last year, journalist Sarah Horgan was shortlisted for The Echo.

This year, Ms Horgan is nominated for the Irish Examiner stories, as are Ann Murphy and Helen O’Callaghan.

John O’Mahony, The Echo and Irish Examiner editor, said journalists across both publications had done outstanding work over the years, giving a platform to those who choose to share their stories to raise awareness and help others.

“It’s important we keep shining a light on mental health services and maintain the pressure on the powers that be to ensure those in need can access services when most needed,” he said.

Nicola Byrne, Shine CEO, said the public’s perception of mental illness is shaped, to a large degree, by how it is portrayed in media. “With these awards, we celebrate outstanding journalism that improves understanding, challenges stereotypes, and fosters informed discussions about mental health,” she said.

Winners will be announced at an event in Dublin, on Wednesday, December 3.
