The community in Ahiohill has raised more than €1,500 for Palestinian people ahead of a fundraising walk tomorrow.

The community in Ahiohill, a village near Clonakilty, have raised more than €1,500 for Palestinian people ahead of a fundraising walk tomorrow.

The walk around Ahiohill will range from one to five kilometres and be held this Sunday at 11am, with all welcome to attend.

A spokesperson for the group said: “It is deeply distressing for us to witness the plight of the Palestinian people in Gaza. To see people so desperate for food, while we have an abundance in our shops and homes here in West Cork, is hard to watch.

“We want to do something to help. Fundraising for the Red Cross/Red Crescent it is the least our group can do, in some small way, to help alleviate the terrible suffering of the people of Gaza," they said.

“Ireland endured a severe, man-made famine in 1845. We appreciated the help of the people that came to our aid. We feel it is now our turn to help another people through their suffering.”

The group has set a target of €5,000 and said that they appreciate donations of any size to help them reach this target. You can donate here https://irishredcross.enthuse.com/pf/ahiohillwalksforgaza.
