Vandalism at Marina Park

Labour Party councillor for the Cork City South East ward, Peter Horgan, has called on members of the public, who may have witnessed acts of vandalism at Marina Park, to contact gardaí. In a post shared on social media, Mr Horgan circulated images of the Marina Park slides, where attachments on the climbing wall section are visibly missing.

Speaking to The Echo, Mr Horgan said that it is “absolutely disgraceful that such vandalism was carried out”.

“It robs joy from children and families who use the Marina slides and costs more public funding to try and repair them,” said Mr Horgan.

“Those who would carry out such wanton destruction of a piece of public play infrastructure are thugs, plain and simple. Anyone who might have seen something should report it to gardaí. I’ve spoken to engineers and they will come up with a solution.”

Wendy’s at Mahon Point

Ireland’s first iteration of the American fast food chain Wendy’s has opened to customers at Mahon Point Shopping Centre. Corrib Oil was announced last year as Wendy’s franchise partner in Ireland, with the new site creating more than 50 jobs in Cork.

Justin Young, of Mahon Point Shopping Centre, said bringing the first Wendy’s to Ireland is “great news for Mahon”.

“We are expecting a really busy time ahead with the new restaurant opening, and we are looking forward to supporting the teams at Corrib and Wendy’s as they bring the much-anticipated, high-quality food Wendy’s is famous for to the people of Cork,” said Mr Young. Wendy’s joins the suite of other food offerings at the centre’s food court, which opens from 9.30am to 7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays; from 9.30am to 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays; and from 10am to 6pm on Sundays.

Join Mahon Tidy Towns

“Mahon Tidy Towns are looking for new members to join us,” the spokesperson said.

“We meet every Saturday morning at 11am at the Mahon Community Centre. We are a very welcoming group, with a social chat and light refreshments afterwards.”
