He added that also recently: “We were invited to visit Carrigaline Men’s Shed, where we had a wonderful morning with committee and members of their shed. They gave us a tremendous reception.
“We also recently went by garda bus for a tour of West Cork where we had a very enjoyable day,” including a visit to the famine centre in Skibbereen, Mr Meade added.
Mayfield Men’s Shed also received an invitation to visit Áras an Uachtaráin, and on the afternoon of last Monday September 29, 25 members of the Mayfield group travelled to Dublin for the occasion.
Mr Meade said they had “an unbelievable time altogether, we got a great reception and were well looked after so we were delighted.” Anyone wishing to join Mayfield Men’s Shed is invited to go along any Tuesday at 10am to the group’s premises at Kerrigan Tyrrell Community Centre, Tinker’s Cross, Mayfield, T23 E295.
Cork City Council is progressing with pedestrian safety upgrades at the junction of Ballyhooly Road and Gordon’s Hill, close to the entrance to Glen River Park.
Fianna Fáil councillor for the area, Margaret McDonnell, welcomed the works, explaining: “The scheme will make the area safer and more accessible for everyone.” Works include a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing on Ballyhooly Road, a raised table and crossing point at Gordon’s Hill, tighter junction design to slow turning vehicles, upgraded footpaths and new tactile paving and a landscaped green area at the corner of the junction.
Ms McDonnell said: “These works will make it easier and safer for people to cross at this busy location, while also improving connectivity to Glen River Park.
“I’ll keep residents updated as the project moves forward, but this is a very welcome investment in pedestrian safety and local amenities,” she said.
The deadline for receipt of submissions and observations is 5pm on Monday 27 October 2025.
